In this first part of Pope Leo XIII rosary encyclical LAETITIAE SANCTAE, the pope discusses how the Rosary does not just benefit the individual using the Holy Rosary but society at large.  He identifies three evils in modern society and discusses how the Rosary, prayed devoutly and meditated upon remedies these evils;  Part I contains his instruction on how meditation on the joyful mysterious allows the faithful to persevere in a humble simple life without jealousy and how meditation on the sorrows of our Lord allow us to bear patiently the sorrows of life by recalling the suffering of Christ.
